How To Clean Kenmore Washer

Here is how you can clean out your washer. The Instructions will be for KENMORE automatic washer 80 Series Model No. 110.23822100, but don't worry, most of washers are made very similar, so you should still be able to apply my instructions to your automatic washer. You are going to be doing this at your own risk, be very careful not to hurt yourself and not to break your washer. This experience will be very good for your skills and brain improvement. Well, lets begin:

- Unplug the power cord from AC Outlet first.
- Close the water valves on the wall that connect to the washers hoses.

- Using bigger pliers take off the hot and cold water hoses from the back of the machine. Make sure to mark which one belongs to which hole.

- On the bottom behind the machine there is a drain hose with a ring clip on it, loosen the clip with normal pliers and slide off the drain hose.
- Move the machine to a more comfortable place so you can have fun working on it.

- This is going to be weird, because I'd never think that to get inside or under the machine you actually have to take off this top control panel. Find the Trim End Cap, take them off carefully by using hands or a flat screwdriver, they are just clipped on.
- Behind those trim caps and on the bottom you'll see a screw that is holding the control panel to the top of the cabinet, (the cabinet is the main big white square box, pretty much that is the front of your whole machine), take the screw off from left and right side of control panel.

- Carefully move and tip the control panel over the rear panel and let it hang there.

- Find the metal clips on top of the machine and very close to the rear, go ahead and take them off. An easy way to take them off is by putting your flat screw driver inside of that clip, hold it tightly on that clip and push the screw driver toward the back of the machine, the clip should slightly jump up. These clips are holding together the rear panel and the whole Front Cabinet.

- Take of the wire connector that is going to your machines lid switch, then Tip the cabinet toward the front of machine and up and just set it aside, don't worry the rear panel is Not going to fall anywhere, but it is going to be wobbly, that's ok.

- Take off the Tub Ring, but do it carefully, don't break the outside plastic clips, and remember how it is now, because you'll have to put it back the same way. Actually, make sure you remember where and how everything is, so you can put it all back together the way it was. Make notes if necessary.

- Do Not try taking off this plastic part that is on top and around machines basket with holes. That plastic part is called Balance Ring with some kind of water in it for balancing purposes, and you'll see a note on it saying Plug Not Removable, so just leave it alone.

- After taking of the Tub Ring, now take of the very top Agitator Cap, use a very small thin flat screw driver to pop it up. The cap is the very top little cover of this whole part, the middle part with a big thread that you see on the picture is the Auger, and the very bottom part of this picture is called Agitator. After you took of the cap then look inside and you'll see a square hole in the middle.

- Get a very big wrench to fit it and unscrew it, usually it's not very tight. Unscrew it the normal counter-clockwise direction.

- Pull out the insides of the Auger and then the Auger itself. Remember where and how everything was located.

- Take the bolt off using the right wrench, hold the Agitator with a hand so it doesn't spin when you are trying to unscrew the bolt. My bolt needed a 9/16 socket.
- Pull up the Agitator (the big rotating plastic center part).

- Pull off the metal Agitator Clip.
- Pull the Plastic Agitator Washer (remember how it was sitting there).

- Take off the Spanner Nut, some people go and buy the actual spanner tool for it, but I used a big dull chisel and a hammer to unscrew this round spanner nut with 4 notches. Also, the second time I tool apart the washer I used a fat short flat screwdriver and hammer. It comes off the normal counter-clockwise direction.

- Hold on tight to the Basket with holes and pull it up at the same time hold all the other parts down so the basket could disconnect from the machine.

- Now you have the plastic Tub inside, and the metal basket out of the machine.
- Well, we are done. Now, you can clean all of your parts down, then dry them all, and then put everything back the way it was. I really advise you to clean all washer parts very good, I used an old toothbrush for hard sticky dirt and a scotch sponge. Take your time to clean everything very well. Then you'll enjoy your fresh and clean washing machine, just the way it was when you first bought it.
